CANDIDART is the brain child of Candice Ringgold a visual artist with a passion for capturing and visually portraying great artists in other cultural arenas including music, entertainment, sports and community. Utilizing the collaboration of different mediums – oils, pencils, natural accrudiments – all intertwine to create her unique portrait paintings resulting in a candid impression of the subject. My inspiration for many of my portraits are drawn from creative artists who excel in their given specialties. One of my first portraits was one of Alicia Keys who I admire as a one-of-a-kind musical genius. One of my influences includes Caravaggio an old master that uses the light and dark shades to create drama. My more modern influences are Khinde Wiley and Amy Sherald the portrait artist of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. I’m am awed by the way they capture a portrait of a person but still maintain their own personal style and touch. CAN DID ART attempts to bring a similar imagery to the subjects that are the focus of my artwork.
